Gum Grafting

When gum recession occurs, gum grafting is often recommended to restore the health, appearance, and function of your gums. This procedure typically involves transplanting tissue, usually taken from the roof of the mouth, to the affected area.

By covering exposed tooth roots and increasing the thickness of the gum tissue, gum grafting helps prevent further recession and can be a crucial step in avoiding tooth loss. In some cases, donor tissue may be used as an alternative. Gum grafting not only enhances the aesthetics of your smile but also plays a vital role in maintaining long-term oral health and preventing complications like tooth mobility or loss.

Pocket Reduction Surgery and Periodontal Regeneration

Pocket Reduction Surgery refers to variety of different procedures with the aim to eliminate bacterial infections around the teeth which cause the destruction of your bone and gum tissues.

The goal of these procedures is to reshape deformities in the tissues created by the bacteria to recreate a healthy environment for your teeth to reduce future risk of infection and bone loss. In many cases this is combined with regenerative techniques using bone graft, growth factors, or specialized membranes to rebuild the bone and tissue that has been destroyed by the infection.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening can be performed to prepare teeth in preparation for a restoration (crown/filling), as well as for esthetic reasons to improve the appearance of a “gummy smile”. This procedure involves recontouring the gum tissue and bone to expose the necessary tooth structure for either functional requirements or aesthetic goals.

Biopsy

Abnormal growths, tissue changes, and other irregularities in the mouth require careful evaluation. The primary concern is always to rule out oral cancer, but a biopsy can also help diagnose a range of conditions, including autoimmune diseases and other systemic disorders that may present with oral symptoms. In some cases, lesions or growths may be localized and not linked to broader health concerns.

If a biopsy is recommended, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure comfort. A small sample of the affected tissue is carefully removed and sent to a pathologist for microscopic examination. This analysis helps determine an accurate diagnosis, guiding any necessary follow-up care. Depending on the results, you may require ongoing treatment, or no further intervention may be needed.

What is Periodontal Disease? (And Why It Matters)

Think of your gums as the foundation of a house. If the foundation is weak, the whole structure is at risk. Periodontal disease is an infection of that foundation. It often starts quietly, but if left untreated, it can lead to gum recession and even tooth loss.

More importantly, your mouth is the gateway to your body. Research shows a strong link between gum health and heart health. As your local gum specialist, our goal isn’t just to fix your teeth it’s to protect your overall well being.
