Dental Implants
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
The mouth is complex system which requires many different parts to work together to function properly. However, when there is a missing part, the entire system is disrupted. A missing tooth creates a gap in your mouth, this can cause your neighboring teeth to receive too much chewing forces which can damage them, as well as cause shifting of the neighboring teeth which may cause significant problems with your bite. This disrupted system can also contribute to your jawbone deteriorating over time. Your ability to eat, speak, and properly clean and maintain your teeth are all impacted by the loss of one or more teeth.
Replacing missing teeth is important to keeping your mouth functioning properly and helps preserve your remaining teeth, bone structure, and overall wellbeing.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone. After allowing time to heal the implant is then connected to a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, or denture. The implant is integrated into the bone and allows the proper distribution of chewing forces and helps to keep your jaw strong and healthy over time.

Timeline for Dental Implant Placement
When preparing for your dental implant, our specialist will conduct a thorough dental exam including 3D imaging of your jawbone.
When a tooth is infected or severely damaged, a surgical extraction may be required. In some cases, if the bone quality is adequate, a dental implant can be placed on the same day as the extraction. If immediate implant placement isn’t feasible, a bone graft will be performed to prepare the area for future implant placement.
If a tooth has been missing for an extended period or if there was significant infection at the site, there may not be enough bone to support a dental implant. In such cases, bone grafting can be performed to augment the bone and create a stable foundation for implant placement.
When an upper back tooth is lost, the absence of the tooth roots can cause the sinus to enlarge, which further reduces the available bone. Sinus augmentation addresses this by placing a bone graft beneath the sinus to restore bone volume and allow for successful implant placement. Depending on the amount of bone graft required, a healing period of 3 to 6 months may be necessary before proceeding with implant placement.
Your dental implant placement is carefully planned using advanced digital technology and 3D scanning. This allows for precise positioning, ensuring optimal support for your future dental prosthesis.
Recovery
It typically takes about 3 months for the bone to heal and fully integrate with the dental implant. During this time, our team will closely monitor your progress. Once the implant is fully integrated, you’ll be ready to return to your restorative dentist, who will create a custom dental prosthesis to attach to the implant.
